Ascent Medical Support was founded in 2015 by a like minded trio with a shared vision of bringing higher standards of medical care to endurance and extreme sports events in New Zealand. Nearly 10 years and over 50 events later, we’re still passionate about taking events to new heights

Dr BEN MCHALE
BSc, MBChB, PGCert (Sports Med), FRNZCGP
Ben lives in Taupō and works as a General Practitioner. He has broad experience of hospital, community and event medicine. Career highlights include touring as the team doctor for the NZ Black Sticks, NZ All Whites and NZ Football Ferns. Ben has been planning event medical coverage and serving on race finish lines for over 10 years.

Dr TOM REYNOLDS
MBChB, PGDip (Sports Med), FACEM, FRNZCGP
Tom lives in Rotorua. He has worked in a wide range of practice settings while completing dual training in General Practice and Emergency Medicine. Tom relishes the challenge that comes with planning the medical support for endurance sport events. Leading the Ascent team at Tarawera Ultra-Trail New Zealand is an annual highlight.

ANGELA GUY RN
Dip Nurse, BNurs
Ange is from Taupō and has a diverse experience across nursing and management. From ICU & ED nursing to managing alpine medical clinics and rural hospitals – Ange has done it all. She has previously been the recovery director on the iconic Ironman New Zealand in Taupō and been on finish line of a wide range of events around New Zealand.
