IMGP9419Tom lives in Rotorua and works as a General Practitioner (GP) Registrar. His medical training was through the University of Auckland, with subsequent years as a Resident Doctor in Whangarei and Rotorua. Sports medicine has been a long-term focus for Tom, combining his passion for competitive sport with wide interests across the medical field. Tom’s background as a competitive endurance sport athlete helps to ensure that he understands the competitors’ perspective and has a useful insight into the unique demands of event and team medicine. Tom relishes the challenge that comes with planning the medical support for endurance sport events. Highlights include the planning and delivery of medical care at the Tarawera and Taupo Ultramarathons – two unique ultra-distance events in the North Island of New Zealand.

  • Adventure Racing, raced multiple expedition length adventure races (4-7 days non stop, off road team race), including 1st u25 team at World Champs 2016 (18th overall)
  • Orienteering, NZ team to world champs x3 at elite level, x3 at junior level, multiple top 25 finishes at world cup events, multiple NZ elite national tities
  • Mountain biking (XCO), NZ age group champ, NZ team to world champs 2006, previous elite Auckland champion
  • Trail running, numerous overall race podiums around NZ, including The Goat, Tussock Traverse, Coastal Challenge, West Coaster, Kauri Run
  • Multisport, Coast to Coast longest day 2014, Red Bull Defiance 2014,2016
